In its new facility, the Animal Center shelters 475 homeless and unwanted animals, and volunteer help is needed every day. PAC members walk and behavior train dogs, socialize cats, work with small mammals, assist in adoptions, help keep the animals clean and comfy, work at special events and fundraisers, and much more! This general orientation is open to anyone interested in learning more about Knox County's non-profit, open-intake animal shelter and the important role it plays in our community. Animal Center volunteers must be at least 16 years old. Although we welcome a long-term volunteering commitment, all volunteers are required to donate at least six hours each month for one year and are required to pay a $25 program fee to cover printing and other program costs. If you plan to attend this orientation session, please email Deonna Light or call her at 865-215-6662 to reserve a space. "Puppy Fair" at Veterinary Services When: Saturday, August 8, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm Where: 263 S. Peters Road, Knoxville
Bring your cats and dogs to this event, which is an "open house" type activity with vendors, information, and other booths. The Animal Center will be onsite offering discount microchip and toenail trimming! Microchips are just $20, which includes chip registration. Microchips are the identification tag that never falls off, so we hope you’ll take the time to get this life-saving tool for your pet. The chip and clip team will also provide toenail trims for $10, and donations are always welcome! All dogs must be leashed or crated, and cats must be safely contained, too. You can leave the rest to us! Can't come to the chip and clip clinic? Did you know that the Animal Center always offers discount microchipping? Pet owners are welcome to bring their cats or dogs to the Center Monday through Friday 11:00 am to 5:00 pm for a microchip or toenail trim. So many of the animals that receive care at the Animal Center are clearly someone’s pet. If they had a microchip, owners could be quickly located and the pet could be returned home. Microchips save lives! Spread the word! For more information, please email Deonna Light or call her at 215-6662.

Clifford is featured on American Humane’s Adopt-A-Dog Month posters and other materials that have been distributed to more than 6,000 shelters nationwide. Millions of dogs are euthanized every year across the country because there are not enough loving homes. This is why American Humane’s Adopt-A-Dog Month was established. Celebrated every October, the tradition promotes dog adoptions from shelters and provides an opportunity to teach the public how to care for their pets responsibly. Improve your life with a dog’s companionship, and support these voiceless creatures. For more information, please visit Adopt-A-Dog Month - American Humane.
